NordiCHI 2020 Refers to Eastern European Time

September 10th '20

If in the context of a regular conference this would be obvious, but not anymore. Please keep in mind that all times in NordiCHI 2020 refer to Eastern European Time (EET). Also, keep in mind that Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends early on October 25th for EET.

This means that NordiCHI 2020 will run under UTC+2 (see Time zones in Estonia for additional info). This should be straightforward in Europe as DST periods are mostly synchronised, but it might generate some mishaps for those joining in from other parts of the world.

So please, instead of thinking about time differences, keep your eye on Eastern European Time to fully participate in NordiCHI 2020!

The Conference Fees Have Been Changed

September 8th '20

Once we decided to run NordiCHI 2020 entirely online, we immediately reworked the initial budget to (re)set the fees for this year’s conference.

Even though we could not avoid some of the initially foreseen costs, we were able to bring the budget down considerably. Unfortunately, we also lowered our expectations significantly in terms of participants. Under the current circumstances, our expectations are now far from the 400 attendee’s conference we initially planned. The registration fees reflect this.

Nevertheless and although now devoid of the setting we carefully chose for you, and lacking the snacks and meals we were looking forward to offering you, NordiCHI 2020 still packs a lot:

  • Keynotes on topics related the conference and Estonia are confirmed.
  • An excellent set of research papers and case studies sessions is organised allowing you to meet and discuss directly with authors
  • Student posters, demos and installations will be showcased with live author interaction possibilities
  • The doctoral colloquium will happen
  • Workshops and courses are still planned, you play a role here
  • And a range of interactive virtual visits is organised and will be freely available to all conference attendees

The above is available to registered attendees only, together with a full digital copy of the proceedings and temporary access to all recorded presentations. Further:

  • A welcome desk will be available to all during the conference and ready will be ready to deal with whatever issue you’d like to bring to our attention
  • A temporary online community will be set up to enable networking and spontaneous gatherings and serendipitous encounters
  • A technical team will be working with all workshop and course organisers, keynote speakers, presenters and session chairs helping them set up and contribute in the best possible way
  • A quick-response team will also be ready to address any unforeseen technical glitches

We hope you’ll enjoy the conference as much as we are enjoying bringing it to life!

Registration Is Now Open

August 24th '20

Bringing NordiCHI online was not an easy task, but its now done.

NordiCHI will be as warm, lively and engaging as it has always been. And it will be in Estonia!

On top of the 89 high quality articles whose authors will present and discuss with you, you’ll have the opportunity to join a wide variety of cutting edge workshops, choose between a selection of courses to attend, and engage with work presented in posters, demos and eventually installations.

You will also have the opportunity to attend three keynotes on topics highly related to Estonia. Although only one speaker is Estonian, the topics explored by all distinguished guests are highly situated in Estonia and reflect work, visions, provocations brewed in Estonia.

And finally, you will have the opportunity to join a set of interactive live tours. These are tours of Estonian companies or institutions where the role of the topics addressed by NordiCHI is paramount. These tours aim to bring you all to Estonia. Participants will be introduced to a company or institution, will tour facilities and will be able to join a live discussion session together with relevant members of these companies and institutions.

Mark the dates! Join us in Estonia, wherever you are!

NordiCHI 2020 Will Take Place Online

August 12th '20

It is with profound sadness that we let you know that NordiCHI 2020 will take place online. This decision was made by NordiCHI’s steering committee taking under consideration the current circumstances. Determinant factors were the volatility of flight schedules and the self-isolation periods imposed upon travellers by many states.

Nevertheless, we are committed to bring Tallinn and Estonia to you and we are fully committed to provide positive and engaging experience to all.

With you, NordiCHI 2020 will be nonetheless a remarkable event. We sincerely hope to see you and your colleagues, partners and students all there. Do disseminate the event. Do promote participation. Fully participate.

With this in mind, registration will open on August 24th and authors will need to registar by September 21st. All other participants should register by October 19.

We Will Re-evaluate the Situation by Mid-August

June 8th '20

As we wrote before, NordiCHI 2020 will happen! Our primary goal is to run a hybrid conference supporting both online and on-site participation. However, as uncertainty about the evolution and impact of COVID-19 remains, we will re-evaluate the situation by mid-August and will open the full registration accordingly before the end of the month.

Meanwhile, we need your input to help us estimate the attendance and your preferred option to join the conference, online or on-site. With this in mind, we will open non-binding pre-registration on June 23rd, 2020.

NordiCHI 2020 Is Going to Happen

March 28th '20

As there is great uncertainty about the evolution and impact of COVID-19, we are monitoring the situation and investigating possibilities. We will keep the website updated with information related to any changes to conference format and attendance modalities.

However, we recognise that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, authors may have been forced to reschedule work and realign priorities, with potential impact on their ability to complete planned submissions to meet eminent NordiCHI 2020 deadlines. To accommodate such unforeseen events, submission deadlines have been updated as shown here (Overview).
